Lift the Fog with This Light & Warming Fruit Salad

Lift the Fog with This Light & Warming Fruit Salad

Kapha dosha, ruled by earth and water, is steady, nurturing, and calm—but when out of balance, it can bring heaviness, lethargy, and stagnation. To restore balance, Ayurveda encourages foods that are light, dry, and gently warming—qualities that help lift the fog and awaken vitality.

This vibrant Persimmon-Apple Salad is a perfect example. Crisp apples and sweet persimmons bring lightness and natural digestive support while providing essential nutrients and fiber to keep things moving. The bright, fresh energy of these fruits helps clear the system and energize both body and mind.

Ideal for cool mornings or anytime you're feeling sluggish, this recipe is simple, satisfying, and packed with Ayurvedic wisdom.

Persimmon-Apple Salad

Ingredients:

  • 1 persimmon, peeled and chopped
  • 1 honey crisp apple, peeled and chopped
  • Dash of nutmeg
  • Dash of cinnamon
  • 2 whole cloves
  • Black Pepper
  • 3 tsp ghee
  • Water

Directions:

  • Warm the ghee in a small pot. Add the whole cloves.
  • Add in the fruit and toss completely. Let the fruit cook until softened. Sprinkle a little water as needed to soften the fruit.
  • Sprinkle the fruit with nutmeg, cinnamon, and black pepper.
  • Enjoy your breakfast nice and warm!

Tips for a Kapha-Balancing Fruit Snack:

  • Preparation: Enjoy these fruits raw or lightly baked/stewed with warming spices. Avoid heavy preparations like pies or crisps.
  • Sweeteners: Use natural sweeteners sparingly, if needed, such as a touch of raw honey (in small amounts) or warming spices.
  • Spices: Incorporate warming spices like ginger, cinnamon, and cloves to further stimulate digestion and counteract kapha.
  • Combinations: Combine these fruits with other kapha-balancing foods like leafy greens, and warming spices.

Let your food be the invitation to wake up—gently, joyfully, and with intention.
