When the Mind Cannot Rest, the Body Remembers

Many of us live with a quiet hum of tension that never fully switches off. We sleep but wake unrested. We eat but feel ungrounded. Our thoughts race ahead of us, and the body carries the weight of it all. Modern science describes this as the stress response and the long reach of cortisol. ayurveda describes it as vata dosha moving out of balance, scattering prana and slowly depleting ojas, the subtle essence that gives us resilience, contentment and strength.

In this two-hour live webinar, Dr. Vasant Lad brings together decades of clinical experience and the timeless wisdom of ayurveda to help you understand what is really happening when stress takes hold. You will explore how ayurveda sees the nervous system, how the mind and body speak to each other through prana, tejas and ojas, and why vata is so often at the heart of anxiety, fatigue and overwhelm.

Most of all, you will leave with simple, loving practices you can begin the same day. Small daily rituals that soothe vata, nourish the nervous system and invite your body to remember its natural state of calm.

What we will Explore Together

The Ayurvedic map of the nervous system: Discover how Ayurveda understands the nerves as majja dhatu, the marrow and nerve tissue, and how the subtle channels of the mind, called mano vaha srotas, carry thought, feeling, and perception. You will see the nervous system not as wiring alone, but as a living field of awareness.

Prana, tejas and ojas, the inner trio of wellbeing: Understand the three subtle essences that govern your vitality. Prana is the life force that moves through breath and thought, tejas is the inner light of intelligence and clarity; and ojas is the deep reserve of immunity and contentment. When stress persists, this delicate balance begins to shift.

The stress and cortisol cascade through an Ayurvedic lens: Explore how a stressful thought travels from the mind into the body. Dr. Lad will explain how prana vata, which governs the head and mind, and vyana vata, which moves through circulation and the nerves, become agitated, and how this inner restlessness mirrors what modern physiology describes as the cortisol response.

Why vata goes out of balance: Look closely at the causes, known in ayurveda as nidana. Irregular routines, late nights, skipped meals, cold and dry foods, constant travel, excess screen time, worry, fear and grief all increase the light, dry, mobile and cold qualities of vata. Recognizing these patterns is the first step toward gentle change.

Understanding Stress Through the Eyes of ayurveda

In Ayurveda, every experience we take in, whether a meal, a conversation, or a worried thought, must be digested. When life moves faster than we can process it, unprocessed experience lingers in the mind and nervous system. This is where stress begins.

Vata dosha is made of the elements of air and ether. It governs all movement in the body, from the breath and heartbeat to the flow of thoughts and nerve impulses. Its qualities are light, dry, cold, rough, subtle, and mobile. When these qualities increase through a hurried lifestyle, irregular habits, or emotional strain, vata becomes aggravated. The mind grows restless, sleep becomes shallow, and the body shifts into a state of constant alertness.

Dr. Lad teaches that this is not only a physical event but a movement of prana. As prana vata is disturbed in the head and mind, the subtle balance between prana, tejas, and ojas is affected. Over time, excess vata can dry and deplete ojas, leaving us more sensitive, more fatigued, and less able to recover. Modern science observes a similar pattern in prolonged cortisol release, where the body's alarm system remains switched on long after the threat has passed.

The wonderful news is that what vata disturbs, nourishment can restore. Warmth, oil, rhythm, rest, and loving attention are the medicine vata craves. Through gentle daily practices, the nervous system can learn once again what safety feels like.

Testimonials

Silke Zimmermann

I’m very glad I found Ayurprana on the Internet and having the possibility to study online with a wonderful team of great practitioners. This wonderful team at Ayurprana is doing an amazing job in teaching Ayurveda with their hearts.

I am glued to Dr. Lad's lips when he’s sharing all his wisdom and knowledge about Ayurveda. I had doubts about doing a massage seminar online and whether I would learn anything, but the classes are designed in a way that you can ask a lot of questions.

The replays can be watched over and over again, and you ask a friend at home to act as your massage client.

Certainly a life classe is always the better choice, but Dr. Lad gives so much insight into his knowledge and answers any question even beyond the Marma points.

I put the knowledge directly into practice and quickly received positive feedback from my clients.

What first piqued my interest in Ayurveda was an introduction I received in David Winston's 2-year Clinical Herbalist class. I then went on to read Dr. Lad's book "Ayurveda the Science of Self-Healing" and what really drew me in were your YouTube videos of "The Journey Within." Listening to Dr. Lad chant fills me with wonder, brings me to tears and makes my soul feel like it's being called home. The amount of meaningful content is staggering and I am so blessed to have found you all! I have been dipping my toe with Ayurveda for just over a year now and I have met and exceeded my goal weight with the help of your cleanses and yummy healthy recipes! I want you all to know that you have made a huge impact on my life and my heart is with you! Thank you, a million times, for making Ayurveda more accessible and understandable.❤️

This was amazing course. I have been practicing spiritual practices of Sadhguru and may I got to know about Dr Lad when there was a talk between the two. I have been following Ayurprana+ & Dr. Lad since then. I am always impressed when I get to know more about this ancient knowledge. I think there is no difference between Yoga and Ayurveda. I would like to continue this journey and keep learning about Ayurveda. Hope I can be part of your team in some ways.
