What you get in this course:

  • 12+ hours of recorded content
  • Additional video and handout materials for supported learning
  • 5 live Q&A sessions with Senior Ayurvedic Practitioner Mitesh Raichada
  • Course completion certificate

This ancient Ayurvedic technique of reading pulse has been used by Vaidya’s for thousands of years to gain meaningful insights into their patient’s physiological and mental states that extend far beyond just heart rate and rhythm.

Guided by world-renowned Ayurvedic physician and author, Vasant Lad (BAM&S, MASc.) and lead by senior faculty from The Ayurvedic Institute, Sneha & Mitesh Raichada, you will come to understand the deep spiritual and philosophical roots of the pulse in Ayurvedic practice while also honing your own practical pulse reading skills and knowledge.

Dive deep into the secrets of the pulse, where you will discover how to read your own pulse and learn to assess the many aspects of your subtle and physical being, such as the organ systems, chakras, and states of mind. In time this skill can then be applied while serving within your own community or practice.

Lesson Plan

Join Vasant Lad, BAM&S, MASc., Sneha Raichada, MPT, CAP, E-RYT-200, and Mitesh Raichada, CAP, in this learn-on-demand recorded course as they teach the small nuances around feeling, reading and gathering information through the subtle language of the pulse!

Introduction to Pulse and Building Sensitivity

Begin your pulse-taking journey by learning multiple strategies to increase sensitivity in your fingertips and enhance your subtle awareness. You will also gain an understanding of the basic characteristics of pulse, from rate and rhythm to force and form. This foundation will serve you for the duration of the immersion and your lifelong journey with pulse.

Technique - Prakruti, Vikruti

Dive into techniques for pulse-taking, from hand and finger placement to the optimal times of day. Learn the doshic association with each finger and each part of the finger, which prepares you for the concepts of Prakruti, doshic constitution, and Vikruti, doshic imbalance or the current state of the doshas.

Feeling the Organs

This is the week where you will learn the location of the 12 organs at the first and seventh levels of the pulse. You will begin to hone your skill of questioning to provide confirmation or clarification of what you’re feeling, which will serve you over the course of your pulse-taking journey.

The Dhatus

Learn the seven dhatus or tissues of the body, their function, and their location at the 5th level of the pulse. This pulse greatly deepens one’s Ayurvedic understanding of the body, the process of dis-ease, and how it may move from one tissue into the next.

The Subdoshas

We explore the 15 subdoshas, 5 each for Vata, Pitta and Kapha. This pulse will additionally build upon one’s understanding of the dhatus and organs in relation to the doshas and help piece together the story of one’s health through the pulse.

Ojas, Tejas & Prana

Learn about the fine essences of Vata, Pitta, and Kapha - in Ojas, Tejas and Prana. This level of the pulse illustrates how our physical, mental and emotional states affect not only our immunity but also communication, intelligence, and awareness at the cellular level.

Manas Prakruti, Vikruti & the Chakras

We will cover the most advanced levels of the pulse: our inherent mental constitution, or Manas Prakruti, and our current states of mind, Manas Vikruti, which are expressed in relation to eight deities and their personalities. Learn the physical, mental and emotional significance of each chakra and the implications if a chakra is “blocked."

Trust us, it will come!

Is it possible to learn pulse virtually without someone to guide me in person?

There are absolutely benefits to studying pulse in person, where someone can physically guide your hand and sequentially confirm if what you’re feeling is accurate. Vasant Lad has effectively taught pulse over Zoom before, however, and with great success. The virtual setting also encourages participants to practice, practice, practice, and above all trust what they are feeling and their intuition, which is one of the greatest and most important skills to have in this art and science.
