Topics we will cover in this study-on-demand recorded course

In this 3 part series, dive into the marmani of the body and explore their significance and impact on the physical, mental and emotional states of our being.

Anatomy Video Resources - In each series you will have access to over an hour of pre-recorded content by Dr. Susan Salvo, LMT, BCTMB. In simple, accessible language, she explains anatomical directions, planes, terms, and landmarks to support your understanding of the terminology Vasant Lad, BAM&S, MASc, will use as he teaches.

Part 1: Head, Face, and Neck

Section 1 - Marma and Spirituality

Begin your journey with an introduction to marma, the sacredness of touch, and how to become a clear vessel of healing energy. You will also learn some basic marmani this first week to begin familiarizing yourself with the power of this ancient healing practice.

Section 2 - Polarity

In this section we dive into the opening polarity sequence used to ground and prepare the client for marma as well as the closing polarity sequence used to end a session. This powerful practice can be used to open and close any other treatments as well or can be used independently for healing.

Section 3 - Head and Face

Here we dive into the foundational marmani of the head and face, including general indications and cautions. A demonstration sequence is provided, as always. There is also a bonus session available for your viewing that details various oils and their therapeutic uses in the context of marma.

Section 4 - Head and Neck

The final section of this first part of the series covers the marmani of the neck and provides simple and accessible ways to apply them.

Part 2: Torso, Back, Arms and Legs

Section 1 - Front Torso

Learn the marmani of the chest and anterior torso and their related organs and tissues. Vasant Lad demonstrates on bodies with and without breasts so that you can understand the important differences in appropriate application.

Section 2 - Back

Learn the marmani of the back, their indications, and appropriate pressure in this sturdier part of the body.

Section 3 - Arms and Upper Extremities

In this section we cover the marmani of the arms and hands. The hands contain many nerve endings, so points here may be particularly powerful as well as sensitive in cases of imbalance.

Section 4 - Legs and Lower Extremities

We close out Part 2 of the series with the last of the marmani on the lower extremities. Overall these points are impactful ways to ground Vata dosha or elevated ether and air elements.

Part 3: Case Studies and Pathologies

This final part of the series is all about synthesizing and applying your newfound knowledge of marma. You will practice creating marma sequences as you develop a deeper understanding of the srotamsi (channels of the body) and common associated pathologies and marmani.

Each section features two sessions with detailed handouts, as well as mini video resources on the primary marmani for each srotas (channel) discussed.

Section 1 - Prana, Anna, and Purisha Vaha Srotas

Learn about the breath, food and feces carrying channels of the body respectively, their functions, associated subdoshas, common causes of imbalances in each, and which marmani are generally supportive.

Section 2 - Rasa, Rakta, and Artava Vaha Srotas

Dive into the plasma, blood and female reproductive channels, their functions, associated subdoshas, common causes of imbalances in each, and which marmani are generally supportive.

Marma, Prana, and Consciousness

Marmani are energy points on the body where prana, our vital life force, and consciousness are highly concentrated. This makes even gentle pressure on these points incredibly impactful. If these points are tender or sensitive, it signifies the presence of toxins, excess dosha, or stagnation in the associated organs, tissues, or channels of the body - essentially an inhibition of the flow of consciousness and overall vitality.

Marma points are not only powerful therapeutic points that support the circulation of prana and bolster vitality, but also highly effective diagnostic tools of imbalance.

Marma’s Ancient Roots in Martial Arts and Surgery

The science of marma developed thousands of years ago in Vedic times when martial artists used energy points therapeutically to recover from injury as well as to inflict injury on their opponents. Sushruta, known as the father of surgery and living at least as far back as the Buddha over 2500 years ago, refined this ancient science and emphasized the importance of avoiding these vital pranic points when making incisions as a surgeon.

The Power of Marma

These anatomical points where veins, arteries, tendons, bones or joints intersect are so vital in their effect that particular points may be used to induce labor, bring back consciousness, or even cause instant death if damaged.

Learn this ancient, sacred, potent science and become a part of this lineage. Awaken the inner pharmacy and heal the physical, mental, and emotional layers of your clients’ being through the application of marma.
