Flow with Inner Shakti

Yoga for Divine Feminine

Shakti is the primordial cosmic energy that underlies all creation. This is the sustaining and auspicious force that drives and nourishes the universe, and as such exists within all of us.

In both Ayurvedic and yogic traditions, we identify the creative expression of shakti as divine feminine energy because we see the miracle of creation embodied in our mothers, whose love and labor usher all human life into this world.

It’s this same potent, divine energy that manifests in all its various forms and expressions in the amazing goddess archetypes that exist throughout India and other regions in Asia - embodying everything from creativity, to love, to courage, and destruction. In these 3 classes, we will move together in yoga, pranayama, and meditation practices designed to connect with our inner shakti.

Using these same divine archetypes to conceive of and reconfigure what the divine mother can be for each of us in the moment and how we can manifest this awesome power in our daily lives.

Conceiving of the Divine Feminine in All beings

In the modern age we have taken the masculine and feminine to represent the sexes and genders we promote in our own societies. However, in the cosmology of the Vedic cultures that gave rise to the traditions of both Ayurveda and Yoga - masculine and feminine were metaphors used to epitomize opposite energies that can exist in a balance, representing the whole of creation.

In our modern societies we have leaned into the energies that the Vedas identified as “masculine” - the fiery energies of the solar - so we focus on the divine feminine to help us temper this energy. Finding ways to bring ourselves back into balance - with both the “masculine” and “feminine” energies flowing in harmony though all of us.

In this immersion we will be investigating methods to raise this energy in any body - irrespective of gender assigned at birth - all are welcome to nurture the divine feminine within them!

Ayuryoga - Yoga through the lens of Ayurveda

Developed by Vasant Lad, for his students at The Ayurvedic Institute, Ayuryoga reaches deep into the traditions of Yoga and Ayurveda - reuniting these ancient wellness practices. Through Ayuryoga we become aware of how different asana (poses) and their sequencing can affect our personal constitution. Through this lens these asana then become additional tools - alongside other Ayurvedic practices and routines - that can help us restore and maintain our balance.

Ayuryoga is a wonderful tool for those new to and experienced in yoga - and opens up the understanding of asana to allow us to support, nurture, and grow a practice that serves us both on and off the mat!

“Ayurveda and yoga are concurrent and inherent, they are two sides of the same coin and they go together. If you just practice yoga, and if you don’t practice Ayurveda, it is half and if you just practice Ayurveda and if you don’t practice yoga it is half… That’s why we brought Ayurvedic discipline and yogic discipline together - so two halves can become one.”

~ Vasant Lad, BAM&S, MASc, Founder and Director of The Ayurvedic Institute

IMMERSION OVERVIEW

In community, we will connect with the divine feminine and the inherent shakti that lives in all beings through the movement of the body.

We will draw on various energy sources (embodying the archetypes of 3 divine mothers) and have a reflective experience on how to connect with these inherent sources of strength, love, courage, and resilience - enabling us to have a stronger relationship with the divine feminine however that may present for us!

We will also explore how pranayama (breath work), yoga, and meditation techniques can help us create true harmony between the solar and lunar channels of our body - the astrological bodies representing the balance of masculine and feminine as conceived of in the Indus Valley over 5,000 years ago.

WHAT WE WILL COVER

In this short immersive online course, we will be with you for 3 live sessions guided by our Ayurvedic coach and core faculty at The Ayurvedic Institute Nishita Shah, CAP, E-RYT 500, C-IAYT. Nishita is also the lead faculty in the Ayuryoga Teacher Training at The Ayurvedic Institute.

Each of our 3 sessions together will cover the aspect of a divine mother archetype - Represented in this by the Hindu goddesses of the Tridevi - Saraswati (as the Creator), Lakshmi (as the Preserver), and Kali (as the Destroyer).

By embodying these representations we can work with our own energies to build new ways of being, preserve ourselves and the world around us, and destroy the falsehoods, perceptions, and illusions that can bind us to unhealthy thoughts, practices, and emotions.
