Asthi Vaha Srotas - The Channel of the Bone

WITH
Vasant Lad, BAM&S, MASc

Come learn about the channel of the bone - the Asthi Vaha Srotas - and discover the physical, emotional, and spiritual significance of this crucial pathway within our being from world-renowned Ayurvedic physician and teacher Vasant Lad, BAM&S, MASc.

We will explore the Ayurvedic perspective on the creation and function of bone tissue (asthi dhatu) - and the common ways in which this channel (srotas) can become aggravated, and the Ayurvedic approaches to help bring it back into balance.

Bone tissue is one of the main sites of the Vata dosha, which is primarily composed of ether and air elements. When these elements increase in our environment, such as during fall season or naturally as we age, we can become prone to imbalances within this system. Particularly for women approaching menopause, as estrogen levels decline, the activity of osteoblasts (the cells that build bone) also decline.

You will leave this webinar with a deeper understanding of asthi vaha srotas and its role in the physical and psychological makeup of our being as well as how to optimize bone health Ayurvedically through diet, lifestyle, and herbs.

Topics we will cover in this webinar

Join Vasant Lad, BAM&S, MASc, Founder and Director of the Ayurvedic Institute as he dives into the bone carrying channel of the human body and its significance for us on a physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual level.

We will explore together:

  • The functions of bone from an Ayurvedic perspective and its connection to hair and nails
  • The pelvic cavity and sacrum as the root of this channel (srotas) and how that relates to the colon
  • How to clinically assess the asthi vaha srotas Ayurvedically for signs and symptoms of imbalance
  • Common pathologies affecting asthi vaha srotas and the Ayurvedic approach to support them
  • General Ayurvedic diet, lifestyle and herbal remedies to support optimal health and functioning of bone tissue

If you can’t make the date and time this webinar will be recorded and will be available for you to revisit at your convenience from your AyurLearn portal.

What is a Srotas?

Srotas (srotamsi plural) is a channel within the body through which the essential elements of life flow. The largest srota is the Maha Srotas or gastrointestinal tract (Maha meaning large or great). The smallest srotamsi can be found in the individual cells of the body that are porous - and through these microscopic channels oxygen and nutrients can be absorbed and waste products expelled. The srotamsi in the body act like conduits or roadways - transporting everything from blood, to air, to sensory information, to nutrients and waste. Come deepen your understanding of this beautiful, intricate, and important system.

What does imbalance in the Asthi Vaha Srotas present as?

Do you experience cracking and popping joints? Dry or brittle hair and nails? Constipation? Or maybe you have mysterious white spots and/or longitudinal striations on your nails? Ever wondered what it’s all about?

Asthi dhatu or bone tissue is one of the main sites of Vata dosha, which is primarily composed of ether and air elements. When these elements increase in our environment, such as during fall season or naturally as we age, we may notice more of the signs and symptoms above. Particularly for women approaching menopause, as estrogen levels decline, the activity of osteoblasts - the cells that build bone - also decline.
